Big comeback day for us on the road. After the rough events of last night we got a pretty late start, but were fortunate to have a tailwind nearly all the way along Cycling Rt 17. Around 11pm. The moment we realized that the last 2 hours of climbing steep gravel roads in the dark had taken is in a circle. Our Garmins had failed us and we still had 35 miles to ride. (at Somewhere in PA)
Due to a bunch of issues including unreliable navigation we added a lot of extra miles, in the dark, on sketchy gravel roads. In the end we 175 miles and climbed 10k feet. It was a 16 hour long day that didn’t end until 1am. Today we have another hard ride on tap and we’re getting a really late start, but we’ll pull through. I guess this is our way of saying riding across the US is hard, and we’d really love to hit our fundraising goal. We crossed the $30k mark but we still have a long way to go. LIOTR Stage 20 - The wind stopped, the birds stopped chirping, and then the rains came. We were drenched within seconds and this storm set off a chain reaction of events that had us riding until 1am.
It is hot & humid out here in Ohio. We are going through bottles of Skratch Labs like crazy. (at Sandwich stop.)
We rode our bikes straight through into July 5. The last three hours were ridden by the lights of the team car and we finished our 180 mile day just after midnight. At least we got a chance to light off some Roman Candles!
Ohio was kind enough to match their flowers & sunset to our Rapha vests.
We have perfected the team car donut handoff. We are now fully PRO.
Every day we carry cards in our pockets in honor or memory of our loved ones, friends, and family members of our friends and supporters. These reminders give us motivation to keep going and the cards go to the families at the end of the ride. Today we ride in memory of Farzad Tabtabai, Rick Trzaska, Steve Thurman and Hugh Cary.
